Arley R.. Vanhook, 83, 285 Harvard Ave., passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at the Dayton Veterans Hospice Unit, Dayton, OH.
He was born on Oct. 29, 1924, in Somerset, Ky., the son of the late William and Ada (Mounce) VanHook.
On Oct. 24, 1970, he married Dorothy M. Compton-Aistrop who survives along with three daughters, Mrs. Chuck (and Tish) Johnson, Botkins, Ohio, Mrs. Jim (and Carol) Kennedy, Zenia, Ohio and Mrs. Larry (and Judy) Pietch, Norwalk, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Freda Johnson, Anna, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; six brothers, Edward (and Roxie) VanHook and Curtis (and Katy) VanHook, both of Louisville, Ky., Edmond and Charles (and Jaunita) VanHook, both Somerset, Ky., James (and Florence) VanHook, Hillsboro, Ohio and Frank VanHook, Sidney, Ohio; five sisters, Carlene (and Jerry) Fry and Jane Haynes, both of Somerset, Ky., Imogene Hensley of Richmond, Ind., Sue (and Rick) Eaststep, Wilmington Ohio and Lois Lunsford of Richmond, Ind.
He was preceded in death by a Brother, Frank.
Arley was a US Navy Veteran, a member of Sidney American Legion Post 217. He attended the Wittenberg University studying management. He was a member of the Central Bible Ministries in Sidney. Mr. VanHook retired from the Stolle Corp. in 1988 as plant superintendent after 42 years of service.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave. with the Rev. John Spencer officiating.
Entombment with full military honors will be at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney, Ohio. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Wilson Memorial Hospice or the Sidney American Legion Post 217 in Arley VanHook's memory.
The Sidney American Legion will conduct memorial services Wednesday evening at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
