- VANHOOK, JOSEPH CARROLL "J.C," 90, died Sunday, October 31. A resident of Orlando for six years, he previously lived in Lexington and Nicholasville, KY. A veteran of WW II, J.C. retired from IBM in Lexington after 26 years and began a second career in real estate. A long-time member of Nicholasville Baptist Church, he served as deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher and director. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather - he will be missed by all. Born October 12, 1920, in Boyle Co., KY, J.C. was the son of the late Oscar Ralston VanHook and Esther Sonora Price. Married December 21, 1951, he is survived by his wife, Fern (Farmer) VanHook of Orlando; three children, Herb VanHook (Madeleine) of Vienna, VA, Jo Carole DeMonte (Bill) of Spencerport, NY, and Ben VanHook (Cheryl) of Orlando. J.C. has six wonderful grandchildren, Andrea, Julie, Mark, Sydney, Ben and Hannah, and one beautiful great-grandchild, Addison Carole. He is also survived by a sister, Anna Pearl Nichols, of St. Petersburg, FL, and many nieces and nephews. J.C. was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters, Louis, Viola, Orville, Russell, Sam, Ralph, Ruth and Nell. Services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday at Nicholasville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Betts & West Funeral Home in Nicholasville. The family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
