  • Notes
    • John Benjamin VanHook (variously known as J.B., Ben, etc.) was married 4 times. His married first in Pulask County, KY to Vona Goff, and had 3 children. Shortly after, he apparently abandoned this family and moved north to Clark County, KY, and became a schoolteacher there for a while. He married Mary Oaks, age 17, while still married to his first wife. Mary's father-in-law charged him with bigamy a few years later in 1911 and forced Mary to divorce him. At that time J.B. supposedly left the state for Indianapolis.

The story of J.B.'s bigamy made the front page of The Winchester News (Winchester, Clark, KY) on 23 Feb 1912.
