    • Ruby Helen Vanhook

      WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. Mrs. Ruby Helen Vanhook, age 92, went to be with the Lord Jan. 14, 2004, after a long illness at her home.

      Mrs. Vanhook was a native of Bristol Virginia, having spent most of her life living in Washington County. She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Josephine Clark Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband, John King Vanhook, a son, Frank Edward Vanhook, a grandson, David Michael Hensley, four sisters, Viola Monteith, Pauline Warren, Ester Comer and Arbutis Brooks, and three brothers, Ross Moore, Lonnie Moore and Marshall Moore.

      She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her hobby was quilting. She attended Camp Ground United Methodist Church.

      The family would like to thank Rev. Keith McGrew and Rev. Scott Price for their caring and attention. Special thanks to her friend and caregiver, Judy Salyer, and other caregivers, Linda Trivett and Lucy Grimsley, also her hospice nurses and aides.

      Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Hensley and her husband Herbert; Violet Kilby and her husband Charles; one son, Jack Vanhook and his wife Elizabeth, all of Bristol Virginia; four granddaughters, Debra Kilby, Teresa Cloyd, Janet Barker and Diane Phillips; two grandsons, Gary Hensley and Jack Vanhook Jr.; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, and two sisters, Agnes Rachel of Bristol Virginia and Hazel Curtis of Clearwater, Fla.

      Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Vanhook will be conducted at 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Keith McGrew officiating. Committal services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Camp Ground United Methodist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday prior to the service at Akard Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Campground United Methodist Church, 19335 Campground Road, Bristol, VA 24202.
